Which Coconut germplasm is presently conserved by COGENT country members ?

The International Coconut Genetic Resources Network (COGENT) includes 39 country members. Up to now, only 23 countries have provided data on their genebanks (see table 1).

In 2012, the data was partially updated in the framework of the project “”Upgrading international coconut genebanks and evaluating accessions” funded by the Global Crop Diversity Trust and leaded by Bioversity International. In some cases, this table may not reflect today’s reality, as some of the countries did not update of the data during the last 10 years.

The Coconut Genetic Resources Database project (CGRD) was initiated in 1994. The project was funded by the French Government and implemented by the Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Developpment (CIRAD) in collaboration with COGENT member countries. Its objective is to facilitate data storage and exchange among the members of the COGENT network. This will enable coconut breeders and other users to access data on coconut cultivars. From January to April 2012, the data was updated for the following 6 countries: Brazil, Côte d’Ivoire, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. We also received the data from some other countries but the data was not sufficiently standardized to be incorporated directly in the database.

Users must contact the specific data providing institute(s) directly, with any questions or comments regarding information stored in CGRD and for queries regarding the germplasm held in a specific institute(s). Users acknowledge that their access to and use of data does not entitle you to any copyright or other intellectual property right or other proprietary interest in the accession list or the Portal. Users are required to acknowledge the sources of the data accessed.
