Bioversity International organized the 16th Steering Committee Meeting of the International Coconut Genetic Resources Network (COGENT) from 8th to 10th July 2012, in Kochi, Kerala, India. The meeting was funded by both the CGIAR Research Programme on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry and the Global Crop Diversity Trust.
As a key outcome of the meeting, the Steering Committee and participants from 18 countries, including official COGENT representatives and various stakeholders of the global coconut sector have endorsed 10 major international recommendations in the field of coconut research and development.
The topics of these recommendations are the following:
These 10 recommendations were endorsed by participants from the following 18 countries: Brazil, China, Côte d’Ivoire, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, the Sultanate of Oman, Tanzania, Vanuatu and Vietnam.
