a) Technical assistance/expert advice
To date, no technical assistance mission have been sent to Mexico.
b) Training and human resources development
One training courses were conducted in Mexico in 2003, hosted by the Centro de Investigacion Cientifica de Yucatan (CICY) in Merida, Mexico.
On the other hand, 16 local coconut researchers have undergone various staff development-training activities on the STANTECH, coconut embryo culture techniques and the use of the microsatellite kit and dedicated statistical software; Training Course on Technical Writing, Seminar Presentation, Public Awareness and Proposal preparation; and Statistical Design; Germplasm x Environment
Interaction Analysis Training Course; Socioeconomics and Participatory Approaches to Reduce Poverty in Coconut Growing Communities; and Markets and Market Development.
c) COGENT meetings/workshops
From 1996 to 2003, four meetings has been held in Merida, Mexico, including the 5th and 12th COGENT Steering Committee Meeting.
A total of three projects were carried out in the country, with INIFAP and CICY as the local implementing agencies.
Donor funding support for projects in Mexico amounts to US$ 77.333, provided by CFC, DFID and IFAD, while national government counterpart financing amounts to US$ 59,166.
