Collaborative Activities between BIOVERSITY/COGENT and Cuba

1. Capacity Building

a) Technical assistance/expert advice
To date, no technical assistance missions have been sent to Cuba.

b) Training and human resources development
In 1997, one local coconut researcher was sent to the Regional STANTECH Trainer’s Course for LAC, which was sponsored by COGENT.

c) COGENT meetings/workshops
So far, no COGENT meetings or workshops have been held in Cuba.



2. Research Projects

There has been only one project completed in the country, particularly on the refinement of embryo culture technology as a tool for collecting and safely moving germplasm. The project was implemented by Instituto De Investigaciones De Citricos y otros Frutales (IICF).


3. Financial Support and Funding

Donor funding support for the project mentioned above was funded by DFID for US$5,000. National government counterpart financing for the same project was US$6,350.
